So after I decided I wasn’t going to get perms anymore, I just wore protective styles because I didn’t want to deal with my hair. I told myself I’m going to go “natural”. When I told my family members this everyone gave me backlash. I heard “your hair is too nappy, you need to get a perm”, “natural isn’t for everyone”, “why you want to go natural” etc. I will admit, I was a little nervous because this was going to be a big change for me. I’ve been getting perms all my life & now I had to deal with the thickness (what other people call nappy, for what reason idk) of my hair all on my own. At the time, I didn’t really know what I was going to do with my hair. I didn’t have any people in my family that was natural or friends, so this was a new journey that I had to start all on my own. I went without perms for 6 months from March 2016-September 2016 (which people call transitioning). I felt my hair was damaged and didn’t want to transition til all of the perm was out (which I heard can take years). So, I decided I want to cut my hair off and start fresh.
